Never one to shy away from a reason to try somewhere new for lunch, I was very excited to be invited to finally get a chance to try the meat-fest at The Hawksmoor Seven Dials. Somewhat the last to jump on this bandwagon, I had been meaning to go for the last year, but never found the time so was grateful for the excuse to have lunch on Monday.
Now the problem with lunch on a Monday is the guilt you feel having over-indulged on the weekend and knowing you have to be super angelic for the rest of the week. Nevertheless The Hawksmoor has recognised a need to drive us back to lunching on a Monday with a great incentive – BYO wine for just £5 corkage.
This definitely puts The Hawksmoor on the map for a quality lunch without the expensive price tag or damage to the brand with heavy discounting. A great way to spend a Monday with colleagues and clients and the food definitely lived up to expectation.
Beef from Longhorn cattle traditionally reared in sunny North Yorkshire by multi-award winners The Ginger Pig. Dry-aged (hung) for at least 35 days and cooked on a real charcoal grill. Ordered by the 100gm and by the cut and dished up with thrice cooked chips or beef dripping chips, served with a choice of sauces.
A clear winner I think for a Monday – just forget the guilt, grab a bottle of wine en route and tuck into a carnivore’s dream. I’ve already made a booking to try their famous Sunday lunch.
What do you think about BYO? Should restaurants be adopting incentives such as bring your own wine? Or are the profit margins going to take a battering? Let us know your thoughts.
