Say ‘I Do’ at Wivenhoe House: Four-star luxury on the Essex-Suffolk border

May 26, 2022 by Maria Hamilton

Wivenhoe House, nestled on the Essex-Suffolk border near Colchester, offers exclusive and bespoke wedding packages that are all about creating experiences with personal touches to make every wedding dream a reality. The Wivenhoe wedding planners are on hand to work with couples to create the magic, whether the event is in the Gazebo in the sunken gardens, in the light and airy Garden Suite or in the Drawing Room with its bay windows overlooking the parkland.

Wivenhoe House, once painted by Constable, is a magnificently restored 18th century Essex country house with a wealth of history between its walls, located overlooking the picturesque backdrop of Wivenhoe Park and the hotel’s famous oak trees.

A trio of wedding packages, designed to make the most of any size of wedding, are available for couples looking to say ‘I do’.

The Classic Brettingham Package pays homage to Matthew Brettingham, the architect who both designed and built the romantic Georgian country house. Starting at £78.95 per person, the Classic includes a delicious wedding breakfast, welcome drink and Prosecco for the toasts, evening buffet options and a night in one of the hotel’s luxury bedrooms for the bride and groom, including breakfast in the room the next morning.

The Deluxe Rebow Package, named after General Isaac Rebow who began building Wivenhoe House in 1759, starts from £96.95 per person, and includes a three-course wedding breakfast, half a bottle of wine per person, welcome drinks and Prosecco for toasts, and a luxury evening buffet selection. The Rebow Package takes place against the backdrop of Wivenhoe House’s famous oak trees, allowing for spectacular photos of the big day, and includes chair covers, bows and a sweet cart filled with indulgent treats. A luxury bedroom is also included for the bride and groom, including breakfast the next day.

The Luxury Constable Package is inspired by the English painter who committed the grounds of Wivenhoe House to canvas in 1816 and offers the ultimate luxury wedding experience from £111.95 per person. Starting with a choice of welcome drinks and canapes, the package includes a luxury wedding breakfast, half a bottle of wine per person and Prosecco for all those important toasts. A decadent evening buffet is served in the evening, and the package also comprises chair covers, bows and an indulgent sweet cart. The bride and groom can stay the night before and get ready in a luxury room, which they can also stay in on the night of the wedding, followed by breakfast the next morning.

Every wedding at Wivenhoe House is a unique occasion, with dedicated wedding planners working closely with couples from the moment the date is booked, through to the first dance. Bespoke touches and additional options are always available to be explored in order to meet every couple’s vision for the perfect day.

The hotel offers forty bedrooms, ranging from unique historic rooms in The Main House with exposed beams, sash windows and traditional furniture, to more contemporary rooms in the Garden Wing, many with private balconies overlooking the beautiful grounds and can accommodate both the bridal party and guests travelling for the wedding.

Located in a prime location on the Essex and Sussex border near Colchester and at the edge of the Essex University campus, Wivenhoe House is a stone’s throw away from country walks, buzzing farmer’s markets, historical buildings and famous attractions including Wivenhoe and Colchester Zoo.
