Forget escaping to the countryside for a majestic wedding, one of London’s grandest venues is open for ‘I do’s’. Grade I listed Barts North Wing is now bringing centuries of London history and stately-home grandeur to the heart of the city with the introduction of a full wedding licence.
Located within the grounds of St Bartholomew’s Hospital (the UK’s oldest!), the iconic venue is bringing wedding grandeur to the city with its sweeping staircase, opulent chandelier and a distinctive touches of British heritage, perfect for couples looking to embrace serious main character energy for their big day.
With the ‘old money’ aesthetic dominating wedding moodboards for 2027, a big day at Barts North Wing certainly hits the brief. Celebrations begin at the foot of the inspiring Hogarth Stair, beneath the two beautiful paintings of The Pool of Bethesda and The Good Samaritan, creating a spectacular backdrop for wedding photographs. From there, the awe-inspiring staircase rises into the Great Hall, where couples can exchange vows beneath an ornate plasterwork ceiling, surrounded by the names of more than 3,000 patrons who have supported the hospital over three centuries.
The Great Hall can accommodate ceremonies for up to 150 guests, with couples able to continue their celebrations into the evening within the historic setting. This newly licenced wedding venue also works with a number of local partners, offering catering by certified B Corp Lettice Events and The Rookery in nearby Clerkenwell, where guests can stay in beautifully restored Georgian townhouses.
The venues’ considered approach even extends to what guests wear. Barts North Wing has partnered with fashion rental app By Rotation, offering couples, their wedding parties and guests an exclusive reduced rate on wedding and occasion wear. Guests can rent a standout look for the celebration and return it to circulation afterwards, rather than buying an outfit to be worn just once.
Speaking on Barts North Wing’s latest offering, Will Palin, CEO of Barts Heritage, said: “Our wedding license comes at an exciting time at Barts North Wing, marking the latest chapter in what has been a significant restoration. Everyone that steps foot into the venue is instantly in awe of our interiors, and we’re excited to now offer such a breathtaking backdrop to couples tying the knot, which will leave guests talking long after the big day.”
The new wedding licence marks a new chapter for Barts North Wing, bringing a building that was closed to the public for almost 300 years back into use as a spectacular setting for celebrations.
