My first taste of PR: Work experience at Custard

April 17, 2025 by Louis Clark

We were delighted to welcome Josh to Custard this month for a work experience placement. It’s always a pleasure to introduce someone to the world of PR and hospitality, and it was great to see their enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity shine through. Here’s what they had to say about their time with us:

This month, I was given the fantastic opportunity to work at Custard, providing me with valuable work experience which will be useful to me when carrying out my future endeavours.

Having never had experience in either the hospitality or PR industry before, I was unsure and quite nervous about what my experience would be like. However, the Custard team were fantastic in accommodating me, making me feel so welcome and like I was part of the team. The entire team were so friendly and helpful, and whenever I had a question or query they would not hesitate to help me. I was also lucky enough to be involved with a diverse range of projects and tasks involved with the day-to-day operations of a PR agency, helping me further my knowledge of different roles and functions, while progressing a variety of skills to aid my personal development.

During my experience I was involved in a variety of activities, as well as attending internal and external client meetings. I supported the team in identify influencers for hotel campaigns, developing copy, as well as creating social media reels and posters to support social media campaigns for various clients. I also gained experience developing press releases and managing databases for a variety of clients. All of these tasks were not only useful for my professional development but were extremely interesting and engaging.

What I enjoyed most about my work experience was getting insight in what it is like to work in an office, whilst being part of an incredibly fun and friendly team. It was also a useful experience learning what it was like to commute and work in a big city such as London.

This experience has given me fantastic insight into what a role in a PR agency would look like, and has definitely made me consider this as a potential career! I would like to thank the whole Custard team for making this such a useful yet fun experience.
