The Master Innholders Aspiring Leaders Diploma (MIALD) developed in 2012, offers an innovative leadership training programme to junior level managers and supervisors and has quickly become a popular and sought after qualification within the industry. The Aspiring Leaders programme provides structured learning and a unique experience, allowing junior managers to acquire the underpinning knowledge to better lead their teams while at the same time enabling them to expand their awareness of the industry.
The Diploma is linked to the Institute of Leadership and Management Level 3 Award and consists of eight action and information-rich two-day workshops which take place at different venues throughout the year. Each of the sessions focus on eight key areas: business management, business marketing and sales, human resource management, consumer management, finance and business planning, legislative management, professional development and leadership.
Although subsidised by The Master Innholders and the Master Innholders Charitable Trust, a financial donation of £1,500 from the employer of each successful applicant is required as a contribution towards the overall cost of the programme.
Previous graduates have come from some of the most prestigious hospitality businesses in the country including The Dorchester, Northcote, Chewton Glen and Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons. Feedback from the graduates and employers has been excellent with employers stating that the level of investment has been matched by benefits their business has accrued from having a more highly motivated and well trained member of the junior management team.
2014 graduate Craig Jackson, hotel and guest relations manager at Northcote, who also spoke at the Master Innholders Annual General Managers Conference yesterday, sums up the course in three words: educational, inspiring and unique. “As managers in the hospitality industry, the course covers every idea and topic that we require from finance to sales and marketing and customer service. Each block is delivered in an open environment which promotes healthy debate and questioning by us all, allowing our passion for the industry to shine through. I believe that the course, due to its industry backing and the fact that many of the key industry figures are involved, will aid me through the next steps of my career. The information and knowledge gained has already been put into action back in my current job at Northcote and will one day aid me in the next steps I take.”
The closing date for applications for the 2015 diploma is 20th February 2015. All applications will be reviewed after this date and those candidates selected will be required to attend an interview on 16th March 2015 at Innholders’ Hall in Central London.
