Custard shortlisted for Small Business of the Year at Women 1st Shine Awards

June 9, 2012 by Petra Clayton

We’ve had some incredible news! We’ve made the shortlist in this year’s Women 1st Shine Awards ‘Small Business of the Year’ category and as a team we’re absolutely delighted to have been acknowledged as a company that has made a significant contribution to the retention and development of its female talent.

Custard Communications is a young and fresh Public Relations (PR), Communications and Marketing agency specialising in delivering creative, strategic advice to venues, hotels, restaurants and caterers. We were one of the first agencies to embark on digital PR and to champion Twitter. Custard’s skills are unique, with team backgrounds combining project management, marketing and advertising with journalism, public relations and design.

When most companies have put a freeze on recruitment, we’ve remained proactive in securing and developing talent to allow the business to grow. As our fifth birthday nears, Custard is stronger than ever thanks to word of mouth recommendation, with ambitious growth plans coming to fruition and a talented all-female team in place to drive them.

From funding and supporting professional qualifications and volunteering marketing support to The Clink Charity, to positively embracing flexible working arrangements to bring talented mothers into the team, Custard is proving that hard work pays off and with the right support, women are perfectly able to pursue challenging careers to the highest levels, while maintaining that important work-life balance.

Sign up to our newsletter to get a flavour of what we’re about, or give us a call on 01483 740747. We’d love to chat about your business and see where we could be of help.

The winners of the Women 1st Shine Awards will be announced at a gala dinner on 19 June 2012, following the inaugural Women 1st Conference. The evening will also see 25 individuals inducted into the Women 1st Top 100 Club.

Other shortlisted businesses in our Small Business of the Year category are Affordable Car Hire, Farmstay UK, HTP Training, Partners in Solutions.

Over a third of Britons (37%) plan to take more UK leisure trips in 2026, as travellers rethink how they holiday, according to new research from AA Media.  Though value for money remains the single biggest consideration when choosing where to stay for almost 8 in 10 (79%), the findings suggest consumers are reshaping their travel habits in 2026 rather than cutting back.  43% are choosing UK destinations over overseas holidays this year.
