Walk for Wellbeing is an annual hospitality event that sees all of the industry come together to walk and take charge of their mental wellbeing. The event returns this October with the goal to raise much-needed funds for Hospitality Action to support individuals and their families in the hospitality sector who are facing challenging times.
Now in its fourth year, the annual autumn event encourages people to either ‘Walk It Your Way’, or take part in one of five hosted 20km walks in key cities across the UK, including London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Bath/Bristol.
Alongside our own team taking part in the London event, we’re also very proud to have chosen Walk for Wellbeing as our charity of the year, providing PR support to help spread the word and make this year’s event the biggest yet.
Hospitality is a fantastic industry to work in, but like all types of work comes with its own challenges. If they’re not tackled properly, they can result in negative effects on an individual’s health.
Mental health issues, the cost-of-living crisis and fear of homelessness is at an all-time high. Hospitality Action’s latest report shows that 52% of individuals currently contacting the charity cite mental health issues, and 45% of occupy front-facing roles including bar staff and baristas.
Walk for Wellbeing is a unique event, allowing us all to make time for our mental health in a fun and positive environment, while also celebrating what makes the hospitality industry so special. Be it wellness walks in their own time or opting for walking meetings where possible, our team of Custard’s are already preparing for the big day on Sunday 8 October – we spoke to some of them about why the event is so important to them and why they’re looking forward to the event…
Petra – CEO
“I’m personally delighted that we’ve been able to support Walk for Wellbeing this year and it’s been great to see our team really get behind the cause. It’s not just about raising awareness and funds for Hospitality Action, it’s also about highlighting the great benefits of walking, whether it’s alone for some mindfulness or with friends, it’s a great activity we all need to do more of.”
Georgie – Account Director
“Walking is quite simply, magic. The physical and mental benefits of going for a walk in the fresh air cannot be underestimated. I’m lucky enough to live in an area surrounded by woods, and although I often come back muddy, wet, and bedraggled, I always feel so much better. I’m really looking forward to Walk for Wellbeing, taking the time to walk, and talk with colleagues and others across the hospitality industry, raising awareness for this fantastic cause.”
Chloe – Account Executive
“Walking offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. I find the fresh air and natural surroundings not only improves my mood but creates a sense of wellbeing that nurtures both my mind and body. To be able to do all of that while supporting such an important cause is such a great feeling, knowing that each step we take creates brighter paths for those who make hospitality their livelihood.”
