Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland expands partnerships to help close skills gap

May 26, 2021 by Georgia Ward

Apprenticeship in Hospitality Scotland (AHS) is expanding its partnerships to enable wider delivery of its world-class, industry-led hospitality apprenticeship programme and help futureproof the Scottish hospitality industry’s talent pipeline.

AHS, which counts Apex Hotels, The Old Course Hotel, St. Andrews and Cameron House, Loch Lomond among its hotel partners, is increasing its network, so it can nurture, develop and inspire the next generation of highly skilled talent for the Scottish hospitality industry.

Developed to offer an alternative to university, AHS is designed to encourage young people to enter the hospitality industry and start a lifelong career in one of the most rewarding industries. With the Scottish hospitality industry facing a staffing crisis exacerbated by Brexit and Covid-19, there has never been a more urgent time to develop talent now and for the future.

Hotels in Scotland are being urged to partner with AHS and take on apprentices. Under the two-year Modern Apprenticeship in Hospitality Services framework, apprentices spend six months in four key departments and develop key skills. For the first time, AHS is also expanding its programme to restaurants through its Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery.

Rohaise Rose-Bristow, Chair, Apprenticeship in Scotland and Owner, The Torridon, said: “Since the programme began in 2014, we have seen 54 apprentices kick-start their careers in hospitality with first-class employers. Our apprenticeship programme is a great way to nurture and engage with the next generation of hotel professionals and chefs, and we hope to see a broad range of hospitality businesses across Scotland take this opportunity to become a partner.”

Hotel and restaurant employers looking to join the apprenticeship programme should email enquiries@apprenticeshipinhospitality.scot.

All partners will need to meet certain criteria and agree to AHS values which are to offer young people a world-class opportunity, inspire the next generation into hospitality and showcase our industry as a career of choice.
