Professional social platform LinkedIn has launched LinkedIn Stories to offer a new way to see and share everyday work moments with your network.
From today, 21 October, the UK’s 27 million LinkedIn members can share photos and videos up to 20 seconds long using the mobile app, which will be visible on their profiles for 24 hours. Stories can be personalised with text and themed stickers, or conversation can be started through “Question of the Day” prompts.
With the increased amount of professionals remote working due to COVID-19, there has been a significant blurring of work and personal lives as people spend more time at home. As people are relying heavily on social media networks to stay in touch, with a 55% year-on-year increase in conversations among connections and a 60% rise in content creation on LinkedIn, this is a timely addition to the platform.
How to create a LinkedIn Story
In the latest app update, the stories function can be viewed at the top of the main feed underneath the search box, similarly to how Stories are presented on the Instagram feed. Your profile plus any company accounts you run will appear with a ‘+’ alongside it. This will then allow you to take or upload videos and pictures to your story, add an account mention, stickers copy and text. Once shared, the story can be viewed by your connections for 24 hours. You can track views of your Story at the bottom of the screen and see who viewed it.
Here Custard has rounded up some tips on how to get the best from LinkedIn Stories:
Be relevant and timely
With LinkedIn Stories you can share information quickly and respond to the latest headlines and current events. Share what’s important to you and your industry, making sure the content you create is relevant to your followers and audience, be it important industry news, new product launches, market insights or other inspiration.
Show your professional side with a human touch
Stories are an authentic way for you to share what’s happening at work and in the news. Share real-time event announcements and news updates as and when they happen such as photos of your work-from-home set-up, or host short and sharp interviews with your team to showcase their expertise and specialism. The key in getting social media Stories of any kind to work for you is by being genuine and original with your content.
Engage with your network
Stories can provide a more creative and casual way to share your day-to-day. Host a Q&A, share top tips relevant to your expertise or give a behind the scenes look at what your company is working on.
