Tylney Hall’s estate manager triumphs with prestigious award

By Natalie Blachford

The Meetings Industry Association (mia) has presented Tylney Hall Hotel & Garden’s Paul Tattersdill with its prestigious Back of House miaList award 2017, for the work Paul has done restoring the magnificent gardens of the Hampshire hotel. The miaList awards are sponsored by The Meetings Show and since 2011 have been celebrating those outstanding and passionate individuals from the meetings, hospitality and events industry who go above and beyond the call of duty.

Estate manager at Tylney Hall Hotel & Gardens, home to 66 acres of glorious gardens including formal Italian Gardens, the Boathouse Lake, Kitchen Gardens & Orchard, and Water Gardens, originally designed by Gertrude Jekyll, Paul was commended by judges as ‘loyal, conscientious, interesting and modest’. Having worked at Tylney Hall for over thirty years, there is no question of Paul’s commitment and dedication to the hotel. Over the past three decades he has driven forward the restoration project which has transformed the gardens into a highly desirable and stunning destination for teambuilding, garden tours, outdoor events and al fresco dining. Paul’s work has also seen Tylney Hall invited onto the RHS Partner Garden scheme, offering free entry to RHS members throughout the year.

General manager of Tylney Hall, Sam Aziz, said: “Paul goes above and beyond to make sure every guest has the most enjoyable experience possible at Tylney Hall. Paul’s team of gardeners look up to him as a source of inspiration but his enthusiasm for the hotel doesn’t stop there; he also shares his passion outside of the hotel, representing Tylney Hall in the local community by forging a partnership with local school Whitewater Primary and raising over £2,500 annually for the National Gardens Scheme charity through Tylney Hall open days. Paul is an incredibly worthy winner of this award, and myself and the whole team here are delighted for him.” Graeme Bateman, managing director of Elite Hotels said: “I am delighted to see one of Tylney Hall’s longest-standing team members honoured by the meetings industry. The hard work of back-of-house staff often goes unseen, so for Paul’s contribution to the hotel’s success to be celebrated in this way is fantastic.”
Tylney Hall’s gardens are open to all members of the public three times a year, at the hotel’s National Garden Scheme Open Days, and can be explored by guests all year round.
