The Grand, York’s Jess Winskill has been given the title Conference Planner of the year at last week’s CHS Awards in Leeds. Jess is the Events and Group Sales Executive at the five-star hotel, having started her hospitality journey in housekeeping before moving onto reception and consequently progressing to work within the events department. Maintaining humility and a constantly growing passion for the success of the business, Jess is also an integral member of the Junior Board, an initiative of six enthusiastic junior members of the team who drive the venue’s agenda forward on challenges they feel strongly about. Their first project recently launched as The Grand, York, Goes Green, aiming to eliminate all single-use plastic by December 2019 in response to growing concern about the impact of plastic waste on the environment. On winning the prestigious award, Jess said, “I am delighted to have been given this accolade and so grateful for the recognition. Having been at The Grand for five years now, this is an exciting landmark in my career and gives me even more drive to work hard and deliver a service to our guests that’s in-keeping with the incredible standard of the hotel.” Jess embodies the history of the hotel in her work ethic, helping to maintain the building’s reputation as the ‘Palace of Business’, deriving from its Edwardian routes as North Eastern Railway’s headquarters for 100 years. The finest meeting rooms, events spaces and conference facilities capture the elegance of a bygone era whilst inspiring innovative, bold thinking for the future, and the historic setting includes tremendous views of the city’s landmarks, York Minster and the City Wall. A number of smaller spaces are also perfectly set up for training purposes, presentations and meetings with wi-fi, wall-mounted plasma screens and refreshment stations. Day delegate rates, meeting and event packages, private celebrations and residential conferences are all available at The Grand, York for which Jess can offer tailor-made quotes.
